Geoff Honan
Geoff Honan left a safe, secure and well paying job with a major bank to start up his own business in 1964.
Geoff had a vision about how people should invest for their future. His vision was unique as no one in the mid 1960s was seriously marketing the concept of putting 5% of their salary into investments for retirement.
Geoff was recommending that companies should offer company stock along with smaller increases in salary as a package negotiation. The concept was that the stock would grow as the company prospered and an equity shareholding in your own company would create a greater sense of loyalty.
This strategy was very successful as Geoff was the number one life agent to Norwich Union for many of his 30 years in business.
Geoff retired in 1993 and his son Damien took over the small general insurance license, turning it into Honan Insurance Group as it exists today.

Neville Gibson
Neville Gibson has had an illustrious career in the insurance marketplace for almost 50 years.
In the early years, Neville concentrated on running Steeves Agnew, an Insurance Broking company which provided corporate broking services and focused on creating specialist schemes for industries with particular needs.
Neville was also heavily involved with the Victorian Health Department and he oversaw the management of professional liability coverage to public hospitals, and to doctors, nurses and specialists. This program was one of the largest insurance programmes placed in Australia, covering activity ranging from insurance protection through to claims administration and what is now known as risk management.
Neville sold Steeves Agnew to create what is now known as Aon Risk Services in Australia and he was Chairman of Aon until his initial retirement in 1998.
Damien Honan persuaded Neville out of retirement in the early 2000s and Neville joined our Board of Advice. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Sydney office and our Real Estate business activities and is a mentor to many senior staff members within our company.

Damien Honan CEO
Damien Honan started at Honan Insurance Group in 1984, helping Geoff Honan place Heavy Motor Insurance policies in Melbourne.
Like Geoff, Damien also had a vision for the company – but his vision was to be a global insurance broker.
In 1993 Damien Honan purchased the business from Geoff Honan and continued to diversify Honan Insurance Group. Over time Damien expanded the company’s services from life, general and heavy motor insurance broking to include corporate and business insurance broking.
In 2001 Damien’s vision of becoming a global insurance broker became a reality when the company became a member of the Worldwide Broker Network which enabled the business to place insurance for international companies expanding into Australia and vice versa.
Such was the growth of the Honan Insurance Group that in 2001 Damien commenced operations in Sydney and thereafter steadily opened offices on the Gold Coast in 2007 and in Brisbane in 2008. In 2009 Damien further explored the company’s international capabilities and commenced operations in New Zealand and in 2010 he opened an office in Asia’s financial and insurance hub, Singapore.
In 2008, Damien was elected as Chairman of the WBN where his leadership and diplomacy saw the network through difficult times during the global financial crisis. Following his 18 month period as chairman, Damien is now Chairman Ex-Officio and Director Asia Pacific Rim.
Damien’s vision and drive has taken Honan Insurance Group from a small office to a company that now employs over 100 employees in three countries and is constantly expanding the business across Australia and the globe.
