Social

impact

At Honan we believe strong business and contributing to society go hand-in-hand.

From improving the lives of our employees and creating a better future through our charity work, to ensuring we are taking steps towards doing our part for the environment, we are taking our social impact seriously, for our employees, our customers, our partners and the wider community through these four pillars –Inclusion, Wellbeing, Giving Back, and Sustainability.

Social Impact

Inclusion

Through our Inclusion pillar we will continue to foster an environment that welcomes and embraces different perspectives, cultures, and diversity of thought, ensuring that everyone feels safe, has a voice, can be seen and has a sense of belonging. We will include everyone as we navigate the road ahead, learning from each other, providing education, sharing experiences and allowing the space for open conversations as we are convinced that diverse teams stimulate innovation, and an inclusive culture and leadership increases employee engagement and performance.

We understand that as we learn more about each other we will continue to evolve what Inclusion means.

• Diversity & Inclusion Panels - We support learning from each other, providing resources and education, sharing experiences, and allowing the space for open conversations. Our companywide Town Halls with panel discussions and/or guest speakers in line with key events such as International Women’s Day, Pride & Mental Health Month allow us to listen to each other and share our personal stories around gender identity, age, disability, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds

• Diversity Survey - To get an accurate picture of Honan’s diversity and to identify any inequalities, we collect, on a voluntary basis, individual personal information on the diversity of our employees. Our intention is to be able to provide the ability to identify the baseline of diversity and underrepresented communities within Honan, so we can focus on these areas with our activities and in addition, produce an annual D&I report from these findings.

• Inclusion Calendar - available on Honan’s Intranet site ‘Ripple’ this calendar will act as a reference point to acknowledge the numerous dates and celebrations that occur throughout the year. Additional content/blogs on a selection of these events will be provided to increase awareness/education.

Social Impact

Wellbeing

At Honan, we see wellbeing as an Eco system that can be defined into four categories - mental, physical, spiritual and financial. These categories are intertwined with each other with the focus being on a balanced work / home lifestyle, which promotes and encourages us as individuals to take ownership of our health and promotes a sustainable lifestyle.

The team proactively manages and communicates the initiatives Honan does to look after the day-to-day wellbeing of everyone who works at the company.

• Mental Health: We partnered with PukaUp, an organization that focusses on opening conversations, removing stigmas and providing valuable resources and education to those suffering. The program offers webinars on topics ranging from sleep and mindfulness to nutrition and movement and every employee got access to a science-based skill-building course on the foundations of wellbeing.

• Honan Employee Value Proposition: Developing a bespoke and impactful rewards program that is in line with the culture, vision, mission, and values of Honan. Categories may include entertainment, dining, home, retail and many more.

Social Impact

Giving Back

Our Giving Back pillar focuses on providing an authentic contribution to our community through financial support, in kind contribution or other resources.

Entrenching the values of community and generosity throughout the Honan team, and meeting community expectations that successful businesses do their part to give back.

• Very Special Kids: In June 2023, the Giving Back team coordinated Honan’s participation in the Very Special Kids 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge. Putting in an impressive amount of training and raising over $100,000 for this children’s charity that supports families across Victoria who have a child with a life-threatening health condition. The Honan team is looking forward to participating in this great initiative on site in 2024.

• Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP): The Team has commenced establishing a Reflect RAP which will set out the steps we will take to prepare our organisation for reconciliation initiatives in successive RAPs. Committing to a Reflect RAP allows Honan to spend time scoping and developing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, deciding on our vision for reconciliation and exploring our sphere of influence, before committing to specific actions or initiatives. This process will help to produce future RAPs that are meaningful, mutually beneficial and sustainable.

Social Impact

Sustainability

The Sustainability team focus on building our understanding of Honan’s environmental impact as a business, with a view to creating and adopting company wide practices that reduce our carbon footprint, waste production, and energy consumption, whilst contributing to the wider conversation on how we drive sustainability in the insurance industry.

• Partners We Are Proud Of - Sustainability Series: Honan see firsthand the impact that catastrophic weather events have on businesses, property and livelihoods. The resulting significant increases in insurance premiums and the difficulty to secure insurance in some geographical locations is undeniable. Our Honan Sustainability Partners we are Proud of Series celebrates the work that some of our clients are doing in the renewable energy space.

• ESG: Honan's ESG strategy is a reflection of our commitment to creating a sustainable future for our business, clients, employees, and society. We strive to be a leader in the insurance industry and drive positive change in our communities. We reduce our carbon emissions by promoting energy efficiency, adopting renewable energy sources, and offsetting remaining emissions through certified projects. Our offices incorporate eco-friendly materials and energy-saving technologies, and we encourage remote work to assist in decreasing our environmental impact.

• Internal Review: the team has been reviewing internal practices to identify any opportunities to improve our approach to waste management, energy consumption and carbon offsetting, including a project team who is looking at how we can become carbon neutral.
